  Despite the name, Hungry Toad Farm is dedicated to feeding humans, not amphibians. When the farm began in 1823, the rural fields were far from any city. Flash-forward to 2024, and the farm is now in the midst of suburbia. Seasonal produce, all organically grown, includes greens, tomatoes, squash, eggplant, and potatoes. Freshly baked bread, cheese, coffee, and skin care products are also available for purchase. Current hours are 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday.
  
  
• The Farm on Central - 572 Central Ave., Carlisle, OH 45005
  After running a successful farm in upstate New York with his brother, Michael Kilpatrick, and his wife Savannah moved near her family in Ohio to open The Farm on Central. Inspired by raising their own family, Michael and Savannah set out to provide toxin-free produce that's grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides. The Farm on Central operates a Prime Membership Association (PMA) with a one-time fee of only $5 that's applied to your first order. One-day passes are available for single visits to the store. Hours are 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Saturday.
  
  
• Hartman Heimstytte Family Farms - 7293 Phillipsburg Union Rd., Brookville, OH 45309
  Hartman Heimstytte Family Farms is actually a collection of several farms, two of which are Ohio Century Farms that have been handed down over five generations. The farms may have a long history, but they incorporate cutting-edge sustainable and regenerative growing methods that result in healthy, first-rate produce. On August 10, the family opened the doors to their brand-new "red barn" farm store to replace the old building. Store hours are noon - 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Saturday.
  
  
• Hidden Valley Orchards - 5474 N. SR48, Lebanon, OH 45036
  At Hidden Valley Orchards, fresh produce is only one of many attractions that draw visitors. In addition to seasonal u-pick opportunities, the orchard has an onsite market with produce, specialty items, and baked goods, including their famous pies. Pick up a shareable snack or some creamy soft serve at The Coop or stop by the two taprooms for beer, wine, and "croptails." This year, Dayton BBQ Co. joined the food party. HVO's steady stream of special events features live music weekends, Trivia & Burger Night, Girls Night Out, craft and baking workshops, and holiday celebrations. • Aullwood Audubon Farm - 9101 Frederick Pike, Dayton, OH 45414
  Producing healthy, quality food products is just part of the mission of Aullwood Audubon Farm. As part of Aullwood Audubon Center, the farm works for the preservation of birds along with rare and endangered farm animals. Sites to explore include the Discovery Center, Farm Yard, Duck Pond, Children's Sustainable Garden, and the Spring Houses. Afterward, stroll along six miles of trail that pass through a range of habitats in the Nature Sanctuary. Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $8-$12.
