Phillips Space Theater makes an engaging destination for the whole family. In addition to live presentations such as "The Sky Tonight," the theater screens a number of intriguing films that explore different aspects of astronomy. Titles include "Did an Asteroid Really Kill the Dinosaurs?" and "The Secret Lives of Stars." Hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily except Sunday, when doors open at noon. Admission is $12-$15.

Want to test your own astronomical skills near Dayton homes for sale? The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery also features the Apollo Observatory for stargazing sessions. Dedicated in 1969, the observatory is named for NASA's Project Apollo, which was responsible for the first manned moon landing. The dome features a 50cm telescope that's visible to visitors through a glass wall. Every clear Friday from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Apollo Observatory is open for public viewing with no admission fee.

Whether you're an experienced stargazer or you have a newly developing interest in astronomy, the Miami Valley Astronomical Society has a place for you. The MVAS supports all levels of amateur astronomy through public education and its membership group that conducts monthly meetings. Stargazing events and other special programs are held at the namesake observatory on the grounds of John Bryan State Park. Wright-Patterson AFB also uses the John Bryan Observatory to gather information that enables more distinct images of objects in space. Plus, they meet close to Yellow Springs homes for sale.

Astronomy can be more than just a leisure-time pursuit. Classes at Sinclair Community College can enhance career paths as diverse as teaching, computer programming, and journalism. Courses on "The Solar System" and "Stars, Galaxies, & the Universe" have concurrent lab sections that include field activities. Both classes are available online for your convenience. A "Special Topics" course may be tailored to meet a student's specific interests. SCC has a tuition payment plan along with resources for financial aid.
