Dayton Staycation

If an out-of-town visitor asked for recommendations, what activities and attractions would you suggest? From scenic parks and historic landmarks to family-friendly entertainment and cultural gems, Dayton is full of experiences that even longtime locals can appreciate all over again. Whether you're planning a weekend adventure or looking for ways to fall in love with your hometown all over again, a staycation is the perfect opportunity to explore the places that make Dayton unique. Get a first-hand look at what makes Dayton special during a staycation featuring locations that are favorites of our real estate agents.

  • John Bryan State Park - 3790 State Route 370, Yellow Springs, OH 45387
Whatever outdoor activities you enjoy, you'll find plenty of opportunities at John Bryan State Park. The centerpiece of the park's 700+ acres is a spectacular limestone gorge, carved out by the Little Miami River, that has been designated a National Natural Landmark. Bring Fido along to join you on the 16 hiking trails or miles of mountain biking trails. Adrenaline junkies partake in rock climbing and rappelling, while more laid-back visitors enjoy paddling or fishing on the river. If you want a complete getaway, plan a stay at the campgrounds. Hours are sunrise to sunset daily, and admission is free.

  • Carillon Historical Park - 1000 Carillon Blvd., Dayton, OH 45409
How much do you really know about Dayton? Immerse yourself in the city's fascinating past with a visit to Carillon Historical Park. The remarkable 65-acre park, designed by the same landscape architects who created Central Park, serves as an open-air campus dedicated to showcasing "Dayton's contributions to world progress." Attractions include the Wright Brothers National Museum, the Great 1913 Flood Exhibit, and the Early Settlement Area. Take a literal trip back in time with a ride on the Carillon Park Railroad. Carillon Historical Park is open 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily except Sunday, when the starting time is noon. Admission is $10-$14 with additional fees for certain attractions.

  • Dayton Art Institute - 456 Belmonte Park N., Dayton, OH 45405
Do your kids cringe at the mention of the word "museum?" Give them a new perspective when you tour the Dayton Art Institute. The 95-year-old building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, houses a collection that has grown from 200 objects to more than 27,000. In addition to dozens of galleries that focus on specific styles of art, the DAI features the Lange Family Experiencenter, an interactive exhibit where parents and children can explore the current theme. The DAI is open 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesday, 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and noon - 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $5-$15.

  • Dayton Dragons - Day Air Ballpark, 220 N. Patterson Blvd., Dayton, OH 45402
Buy some peanuts and Cracker Jack and settle in to watch the Dayton Dragons celebrate their silver anniversary in 2025. As the High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, the Dragons turn their games into events with a variety of family-friendly giveaways, promotions, and theme nights. Mark your calendar for Wendy's Family & Friends game (7/26), when you receive admission and a Dragons hat for only $17, and Kids Run the Bases (8/10). Visit the website for the full schedule and ticket pricing.

  • RiverScape MetroPark - 237 E. Monument Ave., Dayton, OH 45402
RiverScape MetroPark provides a delightful green space in the heart of downtown Dayton. Located on the banks of the Great Miami River, the dog-friendly park provides opportunities for walking, biking, paddling, and wildlife spotting. Gardens filled with hanging baskets and flower beds add a splash of color to the scenery. The park's pavilion is the site of numerous concerts and events, such as the United Irish of Dayton Celtic Festival (7/25-7/27) and Motown Night with the Motown Sounds of Touch (8/8). RiverScape is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
